This handsome lodge is built at the very spot where the fishing scenes of the classic movie “A River Runs Through It” were filmed, offering stunning views of the cliffs and the summit of Storm Castle from almost every room. With the sound of the river just down the slope, the scent of pines all around and a magnificent view across the river to the rock wall of Castle Rock, this lodge is truly a sight to behold. The lodge's beautifully decorated interior is equipped with modern amenities including a great stereo system, a 42” TV in the great room and in each bedroom, along with satellite internet throughout the lodge.

BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS: There are four bedrooms and extra sleeping space in two different areas – the den and the loft. The lodge also has 3.5 baths including a private bath with two sinks and a large shower with a river pebble floor in the master bedroom. The master bedroom, just off the great room, has a king size bed and double doors to the deck and the river. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a loft. The bedrooms have a king and a queen size bed and the loft has a queen sleeper sofa. These areas share a bath with a tub & shower, 2 sinks and a large closet. At the other end of the home, the bunkroom has two sets of bunk beds, one a double/twin and the other a twin/twin setup.

KITCHEN & DINING: The well-appointed kitchen, with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, has a large walk-in pantry and a bar counter that seats four. The dining table can comfortably seat ten and there is a gas barbecue for your outdoor grilling needs.

LIVING SPACE: The great room boasts an impressive bank of windows looking out to the river canyon, a vaulted ceiling, a large stone wood burning fireplace, and comfortable seating for a crowd, making it the perfect place for gathering. Additionally, the den off the great room serves as an office equipped with comfortable seating, a built-in desk, and wireless satellite Internet.

SETTING: The lodge's outdoor amenities are just as impressive with a large deck accessible from the great room, dining room, and master bedroom offering a breathtaking view of the cliffs and the Gallatin River. Beautiful setting near the Gallatin River. The home is lovely, accomodates a large group easily and has a well-stocked kitchen. I would definitely return to this wonderful spot.

We had a great stay at the Crooked Canyon Lodge, the house was perfect for our party of 8 during our trip to Big Sky for skiing and fishing.

First time in Montana with family of 7. We loved this house. It is large, spacious, and was stocked with a lot of daily essentials. The kitchen had all the spices you would need and a lot of paper towels, garbage bags, TP, etc.. We only needed to buy food and drink. There are closets with tons of extra pillows, blankets, etc to use. In the canyon (and this house) you will not get cell reception but it does have Wi-Fi to get texts and email. It won't be fast enough to stream movies. It is 1 hour from Yellowstone and maybe 30 minutes from Bozeman. Google Maps took us right to the house from the airport. Bozeman has Walmart and all the major food chains. Big Sky is the other way and maybe 20 minutes. There are 4 or so restaurants there but check their hours of operations before you drive there. Some were closed at 2:00 when we came thru to eat. Montana Whitewater Co is 200 yards from the house. They were great. The place to go for whitewater, fly fishing guides, horseback tours, etc. The Gallatin is in the back yard down a steep path, you have to be a little careful getting there. There was not enough open shoreline to fly fish from the bank there, but also the river was still high and fast when we came. Maybe in the summer you can wade out in it but now everyone said stay out of it. Overall we loved this place and the owners did this rental right. We would certainly come back.

Manager's Response

Hello John - Thank you for your glowing review of Crooked Canyon and the area.! And you are right in your guess that the water level drops in the Gallatin to the point where standing and walking on the bank is very doable. Typically that happens by about the Fourth of July, but spring through June can be very high (and thus not very good fishing) water. Thanks again for being our guests and we hope that you'll be back soon! - MH Team

what a place for family to gather to celebrate a big birthday. There was lots of room for small ones and large ones and a beautifully appointed kitchen for large meal prep and space for us to sprawl and relax. Also a perfect location for our fishing outings, tons of hiking and Yellowstone adventures. And the backyard complete with the beautiful Madison river and a hot tub!! Wish we could rewind and do it all over again....

Manager's Response

Wendy, thank you for your review. We are delighted that the whole family enjoyed their time in Montana and their stay at Crooked Canyon Lodge- The River House. Happiest of birthdays and we hope to see you all again very soon! -Krista/Mountain Home Team
