Description

Rent with Sourdough Ranch Main House for a group of up to 13 guests! Downtown Bozeman is just six miles away.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: This charming two bedroom cottage enjoys a prime location south of Bozeman with fantastic mountain views, lots of peace and quiet, and hiking right out the back door. The original Black Bear Cottage was built around 1920 and originally encompassed the area now represented by the living room, a small loft, and the kitchen. The dining room was originally an open porch and the bathroom out the door to an outhouse! The building was completely renovated in 2013-14 and the original look, charm, and character of the cottage were retained as much as possible and has been tastefully decorated for a comfortable lodge like feel.

BEDROOMS/BATHROOMS: The cottage features a main level master bedroom with a king size bed and master bath with a gorgeous stone tile bathroom and a spacious double showerhead stall. The second bathroom features a tub and shower combination and is located just off the main level living area. A large open area comprises the second floor which features a gorgeous queen sized log bed, a nice twin pull out sofa, and a great twin sized sleeping platform in front of a window that sleeps one person comfortably or is great for just relaxing and reading a good book! This area is really kid friendly as well with plenty of books, games, and toys available. Both bedroom areas feature flat-screen Smart TVs with a few local channels available.

KITCHEN/DINING: This fully equipped and well designed kitchen has top of the line appliances and amenities, high-end countertops, and gorgeous Alder cabinets. An electric range, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and dishwasher make meal preparation convenient. An island separates the living and kitchen area and provides additional counter space. A dining room is just off the kitchen as well, seats 6 people, and is surrounded by windows that lend a wonderful lightness to the space.

LIVING ROOM: The kitchen opens up into the living room with a gorgeous rock gas fireplace as the focal point where a small leather sectional sofa allows you to enjoy a cozy evening by the fire. A mini-split cooling and heating unit is located here as well as in both bedrooms and helps maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the house at any time of the year. Air-conditioning is a rarity in Montana so this feature is a great amenity!

SETTING, ACREAGE, VIEWS: A spacious deck with plenty of seating is on the front side of the home, where you’ll enjoy meals overlooking the valley! The home is immediately surrounded by an abundance of trees and bushes and the opportunity to see wildlife in the area is incredible. Note: Views from the cottage are 95% stunning but Bozeman's drinking water facility is in the view shed on the property.

OUTDOOR AMENITIES: Take advantage of 240 acres and miles of private roads and trails that are part of this property. Bozeman Creek is at the bottom of the hill for fishermen and Sourdough Trail is just up the road for hikers. Also, there is a small pond on the property that is stocked with brook trout!

NOTE: Winter guests will need 4 wheel or all-wheel drive vehicle. No parties or events allowed.

ACTIVITES NEARBY: Besides hiking and mountain biking right on the property and on nearby Forest Service trails, the stunning Hyalite Reservoir Recreation Area in the Gallatin National Forest is also a short drive away. Guests can spend time skiing at nearby Bridger Bowl, which is about 20 miles from the home. Horseback riding, rafting, golfing, tours of Yellowstone National Park, and everything that the town of Bozeman has to offer are at your finger tips.

A family wedding was our introduction to Montana and Bozeman. We are so grateful to Luke at Mountain Home for providing the spectacular Sourdough Ranch main house and Black Bear Cottage to give our families memories we will cherish forever. Both properties are charming and beautifully rustic. Everyone loved the wildlife sightings, fishing pond and easily accessed trailheads. Thanks to everyone for making this a once in a lifetime experience!

Fantastic stay in this cabin. Owner is very responsive and easy to work with. Very comfortable master bed. Space was exactly what we needed and as described/pictured in the listing. Well stocked kitchen if choosing to cook. Area is quiet at night. Fire table on the deck provided warmth and ambiance while relaxing outside after dusk. We would definitely stay here again and are planning to do so.

We loved our stay! Wonderful views, nicely kept cabin. Loved all of the windows in the cabin to catch views of the mountains and the wildlife that would visit the property! Not too far from town but far enough. We took day trips to Yellowstone, Fairy Lake, Bozeman Stampede and downtown Bozeman! We will definitely return!

We visited our daughter at MSU and this was the perfect cabin for our family! The location is great - a short drive from campus and downtown but far enough away to let you experience the mountains and wildlife! All the amenities were great, cabin is warm and cozy and their are a ton of hiking opportunities near by. My kids begged us to stay longer...next time we will!

My bestie and I were going on a girls trip and painstakingly reviewed so many Bozeman rentals finally landing on this AMAZING cottage. Situated on private land with gated access, when we arrived and were driving by the pond we immediately saw a juvenile bear living his best life by the pond! What a way to start our five night stay. The cottage itself is incredibly welcoming, cozy and comfortable. Everything within the cabin was in fine working order, clean and we had everything we needed. While it did rain a ton while we were there we either sat out on the front deck area or at the kitchen table watching the daily wildlife just roaming around - a big herd of female deer and group of wild turkeys. We did see the bear once again a couple of days later just playing around in the field by the pond. We also took advantage of the nice walk up the road to the trailhead, for a nice hike the one day it did not rain. We never needed anything from the host/management company as they ensured we had whatever information we needed up front in their book and appropriate supplies were provided upon our arrival. If I ever get to Bozeman again, I would not hesitate to stay right here. It is clear why many of the reviews indicate the same thing. Thank you for such a memorable stay!!!

My husband, father and I stayed in the cabin. It was a very warm and cozy cabin with almost all the amenities you need. We were only a 10 minute ride to my son who lives in Bozeman. It was great to be off the beaten path in the mountain base where it was quiet, with gorgeous views. You won't be disappointed!!

We spent 7 amazing days in this perfect place! It was a bucket list dream to spend time in Montana in the winter. This place exceeded my dreams! We loved the privacy of it but also the easy convenience to main street in Bozeman for restaurants. We enjoyed snowy hikes down the street at Sourdough Canyon and everyone was so friendly on the trails! The views from the cottage are breathtaking! We sat at the table to enjoy the sunrise and sunsets over the mountains each day. We definitely would love to come back. The beds were comfortable and the couch & fireplace were great! It was so perfect!!!

Cute cozy Montana cottage.Nicely renovated, tastefully decorated. Kitchen is nicely setup, with ample space for preparing a meal. Nice mountainviews from the dinning area, although you can see the waste treatment plant from this property, the facility has done a good job of blending in with the surrounding area and does it take away from the property itself. I would imagine once the trees leaf out it is not as visible. The upstairs sleeping area is good size for number of guest to sleep or hang out.

Manager's Response

Hello "Okemomom" - We'e glad that you enjoyed the Black Bear Cottage. And just to be clear for other guests, the water plant that you're referring is the fresh water coming from the mountains to supply Bozeman, so it's clean water, not wastewater...which could be a bit off-putting! And yes, it's a tidy building with good landscaping, and guests hardly notice that it's their closest neighbor, especially in summer when the leaves are on the trees. Thank you for being our guests and we invite you to some stay again soon! - Suzy

My husband, son, and I came to Bozeman (from California) in August 2015 as part of our college road trip to check out Montana State University. After staying in less then desirable hotels along the way, the Sourdough Ranch Black Bear Cottage was like coming home. It was beautiful inside and out, spotlessly clean, fully stocked with everything you could need, and just so comfortable. We loved the privacy and quiet of it as well - it felt like we were alone out in the woods despite being just a short drive from downtown Bozeman. We all loved sitting out on the deck in the evenings and mornings. My husband and I loved opening up all the windows in the downstairs bedroom at night and listening to an owl hunting and the wind in the trees - heaven. The boys also enjoyed fishing in the small pond on the property. Our son has been admitted to MSU so we will definitely be back to this cabin on our future visits to Bozeman.

Manager's Response

Hello MSU family! We are thrilled to hear that your son will be coming to MSU and that you all loved the area so much. And we are particularly happy to know that the Sourdough Ranch Black Bear Cottage worked so well for you. We're happy that you got to see some of the wildlife that visits - it's almost like being in Yellowstone...guests staying there see all sorts of wild neighbors. We do hope that you'll be back visiting your son and that we'll see you frequently! - Suzy

Loved it! Very peaceful, serene environment. The house had air conditioning issues, but Laura was definitely on top of it and kept me abreast of the status. Having said that she was even willing to go get us ice cream so we could have a summer treat. We loved sitting outside in the mornings having our coffee and watching the deer in the meadows! Fresh, cool air, beautiful surroundings, lovely home, nothing better!

Manager's Response

Hi "siouxfu" - We're happy to hear that you enjoyed Black Bear Cottage and felt well taken care of - that's our goal! We hope that you'll visit again soon. - Suzy

This beautiful cottage is up a private street near Sourdough Hiking Trail. Our family consists of 2 boys (8 and 6 years old). This vacation rental was perfect for our family, as we like to be close to the hiking trail, but within a 10 minute drive to downtown Bozeman. They went fishing on Sourdough everyday and also enjoyed casting in the pond which is next to the cottage. We loved sitting outside in the morning on the deck, having privacy and seeing the deer wandering around.

Manager's Response

Hi Carrie - We're so happy to hear that the cottage worked well for you and your boys. It really is a perfect place for kids - lots of acres to run around, a creek and a pond nearby, and lots of wildlife to check out. Thank you for being our guests and we hope you can bring the boys back soon. - Suzy

Perfect Mountain Cabin for Fly Fishing Trip

The cabin is located about 10 minutes from town in the most perfect setting! Nestled below the mountains, the views are absolutely breathtaking from every direction! We really felt like we were actually much further from town, as the setting was so private, but yet so convenient for everything that we needed to get to.Our trip to Montana was a Bucket List trip for my fathers 75th birthday to fly fish in the famous rivers of Montana. Although the weather turned a bit cold and we even had some snow, we had 4 amazing guided days of fishing with a very knowledgeable and charming guide! We fished the Missouri River, the Madison River and the Yellowstone River. We caught every kind of fish! Whitefish, Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout and Cutthroat Trout!Needless to say, after many tiring days of sightseeing and fishing, it was such a treat to come back home to our well appointed cabin and warm up by the fire and relax! The cabins decor is so cozy and I love the black bear theme. There were plenty of extra pillows and blankets, so we could cozy in on the couch with hot cocoa and watch the deer outside the window! The kitchen had everything we needed to make meals, as we were too tired to go out for dinner, and honestly, we would rather stay in and enjoy the cabin. The outdoor gas grill was great for burgers! The beds and bedding were super comfy and we slept like babies after days in the mountain air!!It was awesome having the washer and dryer to do a couple loads of laundry from all of the fishing we did!I cant say enough good things about the Sourdough Black Bear Cottage! It exceeded my expectations and I will definitely be back on another vacation in the future! Thank you for a very memorable trip with my father!!!

Manager's Response

Kimberly, thank you for the kind words! Sourdough Black Bear Cottage is an absolute treat! We love this house and are so glad you did too! Hope to see you all again very soon and happy birthday to your dad! Krista/Mountain Home Team
